Be merciful to others!

6:36 Luke “Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful.” (NIV)

Jesus talked about mercy. He also demonstrated it again and again to people who flocked to see Him. He gave God’s mercy upon His people as the example that we are to follow. Mercy is not ‘going soft’ on people. It is not a sign of weakness but rather it is a sign of strength. We may see this in a judge who may show mercy in the sentencing of an offender. We may see this in a parent towards their children. We hope that we will see it in ourselves when it is called for. Look to the love of God to see an example of great mercy!

Please extend this verse to anyone you know who needs to show mercy. Ask if they have ever been shown mercy by someone in their lives. Ask the circumstances and what lesson they learned from that event. Hear what they have to say. Mercy is ‘not getting the punishment that we deserve.’ (Grace is ‘getting the forgiveness that we don’t deserve’). Most of us dread facing up to our sins or misdeeds. We know we did them. We know we deserve punishment. It’s just that we don’t want to receive the punishment that is coming to us. Then, mercy steps in to lessen that punishment. What great joy. What great relief. What great thanks we owe to God. Always remember to Take Time For God’s Word© daily or as you are able to show mercy to others or at 6:36 am or pm. This is a short verse. Read it a few times and you will know it. Put it as a Reminder on your phone for 6:36 pm with the title of ‘Be merciful…’ and it will be easy to recall it completely. Knowing it is helpful. Showing it consistently is paramount. That is how others will see His love working in and through you. Practice it often. It may just change your life… for the better. Be a blessing in showing mercy.

Our prayers reach out to all the homeless shelters and organizations which minister to the homeless men, women, and children in our communities. We especially pray for the Pacific Garden Mission (Chicago, IL) for their faithfulness for more than 140 years of ministry in the heart of Chicago. They have touched countless lives with the love of Jesus in their generous support and consistent witnessing to those in such desperate need. Please support them if you can. Help similar groups in your area. Volunteer your time when you are able. Stay in. Stay well. Stay blessed in all that you do. Pass it on with great mercy and grace just as you have received it through the love of Jesus Christ.
