In verse 22, the list continues: “adultery, greed, malice, deceit, lewdness, envy, slander, arrogance and folly.” I am sure that somewhere in those verses we find one or more sins that are lurking in our hearts, too. We need to begin each day with: “Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me.” (Psalm 51:10 (ESV)). Then complete that Psalm to get you ready for whatever the world throws your way today. Be a great blessing to many others…let it come from your heart!
Please pass along this verse to family and friends. Ask how they react when they see good people do evil or sinful things. Ask if they confront the people by commenting on it or if they stay silent. We can often help the person if we say, “That’s not like you to …” or “I’m surprised you would say a thing like that.” We need to hold each other accountable and to let them know when we see them faltering in their faith. Pray with them and for them. Help protect your heart from sin and shame. Take Time For God’s Word© often each day if you see people speaking from their heart or at 7:21 am or pm as you remember this verse and the source of evil thoughts. This would be a great Reminder on your phone at 7:21 am with the title, “For it is from within…7:21 Mark”. That may be enough of a start for you to finish the verse…or copy in the whole verse it that is easier. Then, each morning when you see that Reminder pop up, do a check-up on your heart to make sure that you have no lingering sins or anger still lurking there. Ask God to fill you to overflowing with His love so that there is no room for other thoughts to settle into your heart. Then go and be the love of God to the people that you meet.
