Seek to be humble…

4:10 James “Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up." (NIV)

It’s hard to find people who are really, truly humble. They don’t seek attention for themselves. They stay out of the limelight. They focus the attention and praise to other people. They prefer it that way. Jesus shared parables and stories about people who were humble, and He praised them for that. They did what Jesus did… He made it about God and not about what He was doing with the people. Try it. Share the credit for accomplishments with those who helped to make it happen. Pay sincere compliments for their contributions and impacts. It may then surprise you when others notice your efforts and your humble heart. He will lift you up…eternally!

Copy this blog or this link to extend this verse to those you know who may benefit from being humble rather than trying to take credit for a task or a job well done. Ask if they believe that others made significant contributions to the effort and the outcome. Ask if it would have been a success without their efforts. It makes them look more critically at what others did and continue to do to help their friends. People don’t seem to like those who brag about how great they are. They try to puff up themselves while putting others down. The humble do the opposite. They build people up by minimizing their role or contributions to the success. Now, Take Time For God’s Word© often each day or when you see 4:10 am/ pm, think about this verse and seek to be more humble in how you act. One of my favorite examples of being humble is when Jesus washed the feet of His disciples. That was the task of a servant and not a leader… but He needed them to see that to be a leader, we need to be a servant to others… putting their needs above our own. Be that kind of humble servant of God and He will keep you in His care ALWAYS!

Each month our prayers extend out to all the seminaries and places for training up our ministers, pastors, lay leaders, and missionaries. These places have some of the best minds, knowledge, and attitudes about following Jesus. They know that training up others is an excellent way for their great ideas and insights to be given to others to share with a broader audience of people. They want their students and future pastors to be successful at sharing the Good News. They want God to receive all the glory for it. Support those places and the people who serve there. Pass it on in all humility and with a humble heart and spirit.
