Do you follow pure and genuine religion?

1:27 James “Pure and genuine religion in the sight of God the Father means caring for orphans and widows in their distress and refusing to let the world corrupt you." (NLT)

It is interesting that James describes ‘pure and genuine religion’ from God’s perspective involves taking action on behalf of those who were often the outcasts of families and of society. God wants us to reach out to the unwanted and to care for them. He also wants to make sure that while we may be in the world… that we do not become too dependent on the world to provide the things that only God can provide. We need to not become ‘worldly’ in how we live our lives. Live for Him…and you will live forever!

Please forward this verse to friends, family, and to your neighbors. Ask if they ever think to provide help and support to widows and orphans. Ask if they feel that the world is taking people’s time and attention away from churches and away from God. See how they respond. Remind them that when we are blessed by God (and we are), that we need to then care for and support those who may need added help… like widows and orphans. Share with them the ways that you may be taking to try to prevent the world from corrupting your sense of values and your love for God. Tell them the Good News and why that is the only thing that will last in the end. Always Take Time For God’s Word© each day and at 1:27 am/ pm or as you hear about widows or orphans, then think of this verse and thank Him for His protection. How much is ‘enough’? It is a tough question. It varies by person and by their individual needs. It presupposes that ‘enough’ covers all of your basic needs. If we start to expand it to cover our wants and dreams and aspirations, then we need to ask if that is for us OR if that is what the world is telling us. We need to pay more attention to what God has to say about our needs and pay less attention to the hundreds of ads for products and services that we see and hear everyday. Stop chasing after the temporary things of this world and start enjoying the everlasting things which God shares with you each day! Keep this verse in mind each day.

We begin each prayer cycle with our heartfelt prayers for all of the women and men who serve in all of the branches of our military. We give thanks for their service to our country and for their sacrifice in putting themselves in harm’s way to preserve and to protect our freedoms. We pray for their families as well. It is not easy to have a loved one deployed and away from home for months at a time. Be a blessing to those families. Help them. Support them. Let them know who much we appreciate the family’s sacrifice to support our nation. Stay blessed in ALL that you do. Pass it on to widows, orphans, and anyone who has a need which you can help to fulfill.
