Do you really listen before you act?

1:19 James “My dear brothers and sisters, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry,” (NIV)

We are SO impatient. We begin thinking about our replies or our feelings even before a person has finished speaking. We are quick with the comeback… often to our regret. OR, we are quick to get angry at what someone said without realizing that it was meant to help us and not to hurt us… we just weren’t listening to what they really said. We can change. We must change if people are going to see the love of Christ in our lives, then we need to listen and act in more disciplined and caring ways. Remember QUICK (to listen)… then SLOW (to speak or to become angry). It will serve us well to know this verse and to apply it consistently.

PLEASE pass along this verse to any family or friends who could use this message (which is about everyone). Ask if they have ever responded to someone in anger and then wished they could take back those words. Ask if they really listen to what others say OR, are they thinking about their responses WAY BEFORE the other person stops speaking. It is safe to say that we ALL need to learn from this verse. Let them know how you are working on it. Ask that they pray with you about being a better listener. Let them know that God knows our needs and will help us to act more appropriately if we will let Him. Always Take Time For God’s Word© at various times each day and at 1:19 am/ pm or as you feel yourself becoming angry, then recall this verse and ask for His help. This may be a verse card that you print out AND even print extra copies. Then, you can review it from time-to-time and you can share the extra copies with people you know when you see them interrupting others or responding in negative ways to what others may be saying. Let them know that the reminder is for you, but you are willing to share it with others to try to help them along the way. Some will appreciate it. Others may be a bit offended (but they likely need it the most). It may be just what they need to call attention to ways they can be more kind and caring. Try it out. You are sharing God’s Word… that is always good to do!

Please pray for our judges and our courts system at all levels. We depend on the fairness of the courts and the integrity of the judges to hear all the evidence before making a judgement. While not always perfect, it is our best means of keeping order and fairness in our society. We also provide for juries of our peers to help in the evaluation/ decision process. Serve if you are called. Thank those who serve in our courts. Let them know that you pray for them. Stay blessed always. Pass it on to all who need some Good News in their lives.
