His Word is our best defense!

26:52 Matthew “Put your sword back in its place," Jesus said to him, "for all who draw the sword will die by the sword.” (NIV)

Things happen quickly. Pharisees (with Judas) come. They identify Jesus. Judas betrays Him. They arrest Jesus. Someone with Jesus takes a sword. They cut off the ear of a soldier. Then Jesus speaks our verse. He knows the violence planned against Him. He doesn’t want it to befall others. Jesus even heals the soldier who was struck by the sword. We are also warned against using violence. Let us work to promote His peace wherever we can. Let His love show through you!

Copy this blog or the link to this page and put it into an email in order to route this verse to family, friends, and neighbors. Ask if they have heard this verse before. Ask if they feel it is still true today. Let them know that we are to act is ways which promote peace whenever we can. If you must raise the sword, let it be the ‘sword of the Spirit which is the Word of God’. Continue to Take Time For God’s Word daily and remember 26:52 when you witness acts of violence, then think of this verse. This may be one that you remember as 26 is half of a year… 52 is a full year of weeks… 26:52. Or, 26 inches is a short sword and 52 inches would be a very long sword. Picturing things that are unusual helps to remember them. It then helps to make this verse number stand out in your mind… and you will remember it!

Our prayers now focus on all of the police, firefighters, and emergency personnel across our communities and our country. We also recently visited the 9/11 Memorial in New York City. It brought back vivid memories of that day in 2001. It paid tribute to the MANY policemen and women and fire fighters who sacrificed their lives trying to save so many others. It was a very fitting memorial. So, thank those in your community for ALL that they do for you. Tell them soon! They need to hear that kind of support. Then stay blessed each day. Pass it on through kind words and kindly actions which can truly change the world.
