Be great at being a servant…

20:26 Matthew “Not so with you. Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant,” (NIV)

Leading up to this verse, we find that the mother of James and John, the sons of Zebedee, asks that her sons sit at the right and left of Jesus in His kingdom. She was still thinking of power and prestige for her sons. Jesus could not grant that as only God will determine the seating in heaven. Other disciples were angered by the request. Jesus knew that created tension. He helps to level-set what’s important with our verse today. It seems that we still have our priorities backwards. We see servants as being a lesser job or position. Jesus sees them as having the highest position in serving others needs and caring for them. Now, take up the towel or apron and go about serving others. You can do a world of good in that role!

You can copy this blog post or the link to it and you can then pass on this verse to your friends and family.. Ask if they have ever been a waiter or waitress at some point in their life. Ask how they liked that role and how it made them feel to help serve other people. Let them know that the service we make for Christ is somewhat like those in the military. We will risk it all for those that we are serving. We want them to know the peace of Christ and the assurance of salvation. Always Take Time For God’s Word at 20:26 (8:26 pm) and when you see someone serving another person, then remember this verse. This may be a verse to print out and to post on the dashboard or refrigerator door. You will see it frequently. It will make you ask how you are being a servant to others. That is always a good question to ask. Enjoy finding the answers and in seeing the impact you will have serving others in the name of Jesus!

Our prayers also extend to all of the people who are part of the system of jails and prisons around the country. This includes the guards and staff, the prisoners and their families, and those who were impacted by those prisoners. It is sad that we have so many people in our prisons. We need to partner up with ministries that work with the families and the released prisoners to avoid being incarcerated in the future. Help them if you can. Help the churches to reach out to them. Be a blessing by lending a helping hand. Pass it on through service to those who need it most.
