Treat God’s name as Holy.

5:37 Matthew “All you need to say is simply 'Yes' or 'No'; anything beyond this comes from the evil one.” (NIV)

Why is that people who don’t want to talk about religion are the same ones who use ‘Jesus’…’God’…’Hell’…and other terms often when they speak. They use them a lot. But they don’t use them in reverence or in praise. They add them to ‘yes’ or ‘no’ as if it gives more emphasis or power to their answers. They don’t. Help them to understand that. Remind them that those names are important to you. Offer to help them to use them appropriately in a prayer. It may just be the turning point that they need in life. Make it work to His glory!

Remember to pass on this verse to friends on social media and on your email lists by copying this blog or by sending them this link. Ask how they feel when others are using profanity in every sentence or in every response. Ask if they feel offended and if they ever say anything to the person about it. Let them know that we are to use God’s name rightly as it says in the 2nd Commandment. We need to speak up when we see opportunities to help people who need to know God in a personal way… not in an offensive way. Next, Take Time For God’s Word at 5:37 am or pm and as you hear swearing, then remember this verse and how you are to answer. Print this verse card…even make extra copies to pass on to people who may need to be reminded of this verse. There are many great verses from Matthew 5:16 thru 5:37 which we did not cover. Make that part of your personal Bible Study time. They are great reminders to all of us. Choose to follow His Word!

Today we pray for all of those who are in our prisons or jails and for all of those who work in our prison system. It impacts families, victims, inmates, guards, and so many more. They need our prayers. They need our support. They need forgiveness. They need hope. Be that type of blessing to all those that you touch. Help them to see that God’s love can change hearts. Show that through your actions. Pass it on to make forgiveness work in the lives of those in greatest need.
