Let’s all go fishing!…

4:19 Matthew “Come, follow me," Jesus said, "and I will send you out to fish for people." (NIV)

Jesus begins the process of choosing His disciples. He didn’t go to the temple to find the religious people… or the educated people… or the prosperous people. He began by calling fishermen… plain… ordinary… smelly fishermen. His call was simple. Follow Jesus to fish for people… to bring people into the kingdom of heaven…to help people who are hurting or lost. That was Jesus call then. That is still Jesus call to us today. Come and follow Him!

Here's a chance to send this blog or the link to all of your friends on social media and on your email list. Ask if they have ever been fishing. Ask what they used for bait and were they successful at catching anything. (These questions are to get them talking and to give your opportunities to relate the Gospel message to the conversation). Tell them about Jesus calling His disciples. Let them know that He is still calling people to follow Him today. Be sure to Take Time For God’s Word at 4:19 am or pm and as you see fish or fishermen, then remember this verse. To help recall this verse, think of something ‘unusual’ like a golfer yelling ‘FORE’ on the 19th hole (that’s unusual!) and he or she is purposely hitting the ball into a fishing pond which has a floating flag in it with a cross on the flag. Now you have an unusual, and hopefully memorable, thought about ‘4-19-fishing-the cross’. OR…add it as a Reminder on your phone at 4:19 pm. Just recall that you are chosen to be a disciple of Christ!

We continue our prayers for all of the various workers in our schools…principals, administrative staff, custodians, bus drivers, cooks, medical workers, etc. All have important roles to play in helping to educate and shape the lives of our children and our grandchildren. Tell them that you appreciate their service. Volunteer to help if you can. Support their activities. Cheer them on. Be a blessing by encouraging them in their roles. You can do this… I know you can! Pass it on through thoughtful acts of kindness and words of loving support.
