Trust and obey as children of God

3:20 Colossians “Children, obey your parents in everything, for this pleases the Lord.” (NIV)

In verses 18 and 19 of Colossians, Paul talks about the roles of wives-to-husbands and husbands-to-wives…behaving in love for each other. His focus here is on children. It is a simple verse. Your parents may have even quoted it to you at some point. Imagine how much simpler life would be a home if this were followed by our children. Yet, our reality is that we don’t always obey. We want our own way. We want the freedom to make our own choices. We want to do our own thing. And that is how we act towards God as our heavenly father. This is a reminder to ALL of us as His children to obey His Word and to follow His plan for us. What a great life He has ready for us…if we will obey Him!!

Share this verse with your friends and family. Ask if their parents ever said this verse (or something like it) to them as children. Ask if that caused them to change their behavior. Let them know about our role as children of our heavenly Father. Share with them the joys and benefits of following the Word of God and the will of God for us. Next, Take Time For God’s Word at 3:20 am or pm and as you see a child obey his parents, then think of this verse. While the temptation is to make this verse into a GIANT poster to hang in the room of our children (regardless of their ages), the best option is to make it Task on your phone for 3:20 pm. Label it as “Children, obey…” That’s all you need to recall the verse and the meaning for us and our parents AND for ALL of us as children of God. Follow this and enjoy a great relationship and life under God’s love!

We must meet the physical needs of people in order for them to focus on their spiritual needs. We need to do the same with people around us. Do what you can where you are. Share generously. Love greatly. Be His hands and feet. Stay blessed to be a blessing. Pass it on by obeying God’s plan and living it out boldly each day.
